Josh Lilley is pleased to present Fun House, a group exhibition of eight international artists, most of whom will be shown in the UK for the first time.

The fun house is a place of nonlinear cues and surprise reveals, a place where things come out in the swirl. An unusual angle or caught reflection reveals purity and grace inside of something thick, dense, layered or chaotic. The distortion of the fun house mirror is not fun, it is often grotesque or confusing. But its still a mirror.

This exhibition took its theme from two sources: the 1970 record Fun House by the Stooges, in which delirious grooves summoned flames of cultural free fall as the hippie dream crumbled; and the British afterschool gameshow Fun House, a messy technicolour treat for kids that spanned the grey end of Thatcherism and the burlesque of prosperity under Tony Blair.

Like the fun houses before it, this exhibition speaks of the raw meat of capitalism, the mania of desire, the quicksand of identity, and the need for an apparatus to process the world in a moment of intense acceleration. Come join the fun.

Farah Atassi (b. 1981, Brussels, Belgium) has exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo and Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, the Boghossian Foundation, Brussels, and the 7th Moscow International Biennial, among many others. This is her first exhibition in the UK.

Brian Bress (b. 1975, Norfolk, Virginia) was the subject of the traveling 10-year survey exhibition Make Your Own Friends at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, and the Orange County Museum of Art in 2015-2016. His first exhibition in the UK took place at Josh Lilley in May 2018.

Derek Fordjour (b. 1974, Memphis, Tennessee) was the 2016 artist-in-residence at the Sugar Hill Museum, New York. He is participating in the exhibition Cliche at Almine Rech, New York, in July 2018, and will present a solo booth with Josh Lilley at Art Basel Miami Beach ahead of his first gallery solo exhibition in early 2019.

Genieve Gaignard (b. 1981, Orange, Massachusetts) is the subject of the solo exhibition Counterfeit Currency at the Flag Art Foundation in New York, on display through August 2018. She was included in Prospect.4, New Orleans, in 2017. This is her first exhibition in the UK.

Sayre Gomez (b. 1982, Chicago, Illinois) has mounted multiple solo exhibitions at Nagel Draxler, Cologne, and Ghebaly Gallery, Los Angeles. This is his first exhibition in the UK.

Nicholas Hatfull (b. 1984, Tokyo) has been the subject of a 2018 solo show and 2015 two-person show (with Victor Willing) at Josh Lilley. Hatfull presented the Felicity Powell Lecture at the British School of Rome in February 2018.

John Seal (b. 1971, Seattle, Washington) has been the subject of group and solo exhibitions at Koenig Galerie, Berlin, and Gavin Browns Enterprise, New York, among many others. This is his first exhibition in the UK

Alake Shilling (b. 1993, Los Angeles, California) presented the solo exhibition Monsoon Lagoon at 356 Mission, Los Angeles, in 2018. This is her first exhibition in the UK.
